Even if Audi is contemplating on slowing down operations in India after Budget 2011, they don’t seem to have made any changes in their strategy, as they have officially announced to launch the R8 Spyder in India on 25th of this month. After launching the super luxurious A8L and Q5 2.0L TDI, earlier this year, R8 Spyder will be their 3rd launch in India this year.
Budget 2011 had revised the duties on cars which were imported as CKD units. Because of this, the prices of cars like Audi A4, Mercedes C Class, BMW 3 Series, etc will go up by approximately Rs 8 lakhs.
Upset over this unpleasant development, Audi was forced to rethink their strategy in India. Audi even announced that they might leave India altogether and will come back once the market for luxury cars is better than today.
Coming back to the launch, powered by a 5.2L V10 FSI that generates 518 bhp @ 8,000 rpm and 530 Nm @ 6,500 rpm, the Audi R8 Spyder comes with a top speed of 310 kph and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.1 seconds.
It will be available in soft top and hard top variants. Expect the hard top to be priced around Rs 1.35 crores while the soft top variant will be priced at approximately Rs 1.45 crores.
